PickupTrucks.com gets first drive of Jeep JK-8 Pickup conversion kit

Jeep fans have long clamored for a Wrangler with a pickup bed (ever since the CJ-8 Scrambler, that is), and Mopar appears to have come through with the introduction of the JK-8 Pickup conversion kit. The kit comes in one of two flavors; a show car spec that needs plenty of welding and a high degree of technical acumen and a bolt-on kit for the weekend warrior.
The truck nuts at Pickuptrucks.com were pretty excited about taking a spin in the JK-8 Independence, so they headed to Moab for the annual Easter Jeep Safari. The modded-up Wrangler truck features the JK-8 kit, along with new wheels and tires, a 4.5-inch lift kit and a Dana 44 front axle. The truck site found the Independence to have some awkward proportions, and writer Mark Williams was a bit dismayed that the 50-inch pickup bed didn't feature stronger coil springs to accommodate additional payload capacity.
 
After some rock-crawling and other activities, Levine and company came away with the impression that the JK-8 Independence handles itself much the same as the Wrangler Unlimited. In other words, the bedded Wrangler acquitted itself off the beaten path just fine

Part of what made the first-gen Chrysler 300 such an irrefutable hit was its popularity with aftermarket parts suppliers and tuners; the car was a virtual blank canvas for customizers. Chrysler is courting those same people with its new 300?though this time, it won't send them to the aftermarket without showing them the Mopar catalog first, wherein they will see no fewer than eight unique grille designs and six designs of custom wheels. The grilles include the standard seven-bar design with either bright or satin-finished chrome; another is a fine wire mesh insert in black or bright chrome; there's a glitzy diamond-pattern lace insert in bright chrome; a ribbed, perforated black chrome grille á la the 2012 300C SRT-8; and our favorite, a 13-bar billet grille patterned after the grille of the original Chrysler 300. Prices are surprisingly reasonable, too, ranging from $310 to $750.

Wheel designs include three 20-inchers?a 10-spoke design in two finishes and one five-spoker in black chrome?a 19-inch "satin carbon" eight-spoke wheel intended for all-wheel-drive models, and two 18-inch five-spoke designs in two finishes. Prices for these start at $265 per rim and run up to $610 each.

The Jeep brand recently released TripCast, a free Apple iPhone® application designed to help build brand equity, retain current customers and acquire new ones. TripCast by Jeep is available as a free app download from the iTunes® Store, thus potentially exposing the Jeep brand to more than 50 million iPhone users and  100 million iTunes users.

TripCast users can track their journeys via GPS and scrapbook video, audio, photos and commentary, all in real time, all along the way. They can then post their adventures to a closed private network or share it with the world on the TripCast website, www.jeeptripcast.com. Users can post updates to their Twitter feed or facebook® page and check the database of Jeep-centric locations like Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) trails, parks, ski slopes and campgrounds.
